Essential Digital Literacy Elements

This was the final assignment for my educ 6305 class. I am glad that the class is over but I really enjoyed learning all the new things that involve technology. I am really excited because I can actually use them in the classes that I teach. Dr. Pierce obviously just doesn't use this technology for teaching because the final survey that we had to fill out was a survey done on Google forms in the Google doc program.

Again thanks for an exciting class. I would like to continue to learn all these new programs but only if I didn't have to receive a grade for them and maybe if I could do it at my own pace. I was nice working with all the students in this class. All of you were very helpful on the blackboard site and on a couple of assignment I probably would not have been able to finish without you.

Have a great summer and I am sure we will cross paths again.

This was a good assignment. This assignment not only incorporated how and why you use technology in your class but made you realize what you can do different to make your class better for the teacher and for the students. It really kind of made you think of all the things you haven't been doing and makes you second guess yourself as to if you are good teacher or not. LOL!! That is why we are taking classes like this. To learn and to become better teachers. I really thought this whole assignment would be all about technology and maybe I messed the entire assignment up but now I know why we had to wait until the end of the class to answer these eight questions. Mission accomplished.

The ISTE NETS T that this assignment compares to is # 5. Engage in professional growth and leadership. Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating use of digital tools and resources.

Google Forms

Click on Physical Activity to see my Google forms doc survey.

I always wondered how people created all of these online surveys and things that you get on web pages. This is pretty neat. Like Dr. Pierce said and many others have said, it is pretty user friendly. Just like any other program, the more you use it the easier it is to use and the better the product you produce is. I really enjoyed using this program. I can see myself using this in the near future in my classes. I can see myself using this exact survey to send home to students over the summer. I will just have to get permission from parents to send this the students email address or even post it to a web page and the students can access the web page on their own. This will help me to plan out new activities and at what level I can develop them. This will also set little flags and ideas into students heads to remind them that they need to be doing some type of physical activity everyday instead of setting in front of a computer (no offense), T.V. or video game all day.

ISTE NETS T standard that I think it compares to the most is # 2 and # 3. Design and Develop Digital-Age learning Experiences and Assessments. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning. Design and adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity. Collaborate with students, peers, parents, and community members using digital tools and resources to support student success and innovation.

Jeopardy Lab

My Jeopardy Template

Click on the above link or Jeopardy to see my Jeopardy template and play the game.

This is a really helpful activity that also helps to incorporate technology into the physical education classroom. I can use Jeopardy Labs to help review after teaching a new skill or sport. After the introduction and participation of each new skill or sport I will give each student a study guide before I give them a written test. Jeopardy Labs will allow me to review or quiz each student before I give them the test. It is a fun way to study and also a way to give reward or give students bonus points for doing well.

This allows students the opportunity to team up with classmates and communicate with each other in a group setting. I will definitely use this in my classes this year.

The ISTE NETS T component that I would compare it to is: #2 Design and Develop Digital age Learning Experiences and Assessments. Teachers design, develop and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes identified in the nets s. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity.

Photostory

Click on Cyberbullying to see my PSA on YouTube.

This is a really cool assignment. Photostory3 is very user friendly and lets you use your imagination to the fullest. This is my first time using Photostory so I didn't get as imaginative as I should have but I will with the next movie that I make.

What I really like about the Photostory program is the fact that it basically walks you step by step through each section. It even has a link on each page that explains to you how to use that portion of the program.

At first I was a little skeptical about using the microphone and narrating but it was really easy, almost too easy.

The ISTE NETS T that this activity corresponds with is: # 3 Model digital-age Work and Learning. Demonstrate fluency in technology systems and the transfer of current knowledge to new technologies and situations. Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to parents, students, and peers using a variety of digital age media and formats.

Prezi

Click on Prezi to see my presentation on fitnessgram.

I not sure if I like Prezi or not. It was not hard to work with, as a matter of fact is was very easy to work with. It is different from a powerpoint in the sense that you don't actually leave the page you are on. All of your information is on one giant canvass and you are just exploring different sections of the canvass. A powerpoint actually makes you go to a different slide or page. When you are creating a powerpoint you almost have to start over and create a new powerpoint with every page. Prezi is nice in the sense that you can see what you are creating all at the same time. It is the same in the sense that it is simply just a powerpoint presentation but easier to maneuver through.

After making my statements and then reading my statement................I guess I do like Prezi better.

As before I could use this during instruction when explaining new material to students. I could use this during an open house when teaching parents about how my P.E. class is run.

The ISTE NETS T that relates to this assignment is: #1, #3, and #5

Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity in both face to face and virtual environment. Model digital age work and learning to collaborate with students, parents, peers, and community members using digital tools to support innovation. Teachers continuously improve professional practice by demonstrating the effective use of digital tools.
